The First Taste
Alexandre Monte Crispo, Ink on paper (66 x 44 cm)
It started with an accident. Or was it an accident? Maybe it was the potato that caused this. Either way, it was the first moment when the potato realised that he had a part to play in his own destiny. It was his first taste of freedom.
Alexandre Monte Crispo (1948-2019) was born in London to a wealthy family of French decent, he grew up in the lap of luxury. This was all taken away from him when he was 21 after the business empire of his family collapsed during the economic crisis caused by "The Great Debacle" of 1986. The loss of wealth transformed his life and his view of the world. Alexandre was rather surprised that for the very first time he felt like he was truly alive. It was during this time that he began to pursue the arts with great success. Alexandre died as wealthy as when he was born, however he was never truly excepted by his peers, who referred to him as "that posh twat".
